I was wondering if it is possible to connect Silverstripe to a SQL server database that is running on a local area network. If this is possible may you please point out on what is needed as SS will be on a live remote server. Any ideas???

Depends on your server setup, but we have an MSSQL database connector for SilverStripe you can use: https://github.com/silverstripe/silverstripe-mssql

Maybe you can provide a few more details of the servers which need to talk to eachother, inc. OS platforms etc.
