Looks cool. Don't forget the usability requirement for the current menu item to remain selected when you're on it
Also, when a main menu is on the left side, it is more intuitive if submenu items appear inside ir rather than below, and SilverStripe takes a lot of pride in ensuring things are as intuitive, findable, logical and easy as possible. In other words;

menu item (currently selected)
...sub menu item
...sub menu item
...sub menu item.

menu itemrather than
