stuck on install

The install stops on a page that says:
I am now running through the installation steps (this should take about 30 seconds)
If you receive a fatal error, refresh this page to continue the installation
# Creating 'assets' folder...
# Creating 'mysite/_config.php'...
# Creating '.htaccess' file...
# Building database schema...
Please enter a username and password.I have tried to login with no success as admin. I added the Security statement in the mysite config file, but all that I get whe I go to the site is a blank page.
where should I look next?

If you're using the 2.0.0 release, and are able to get it working using this instead:
http://www.silverstripe.com/assets/rc/silverstripe-v2.0.1-rc5.tar.gz
Then this shouldn't be a problem anymore.
