Installing 2.2.2 RC5 - 500 Internal Server Error

Hi all, I'm trying to test 2.2.2 RC5 on WAMP (PHP 5.2.5, Apache 2.2.8, MySQL 5.0.51a)
Straight after installation, I get the "Attempt to continue" link which takes me to the /home/successfullyinstalled?flush=1 page. (Which is always normal when I install on WAMP)
I get a 500 Internal server error here.
Apache Error log says:
W:/ss_test/html/.htaccess: RewriteBase takes one argument, the base URL of the per-directory context
If I comment out the RewriteBase in the .htaccess file, I get a blank page. (No 500 Error)
Any ideas? This RewriteBase line is non-existant in 2.2.1 and I have been able to install that version in the same directory with the same local url no probs.
