user defined form widgets

Hi
Im using version 2.3.1 of silverstripe and im having trouble with the widgets on pages that are not of page type 'page' on the blog and user defined form pages i can drag and drop the widget and click save which appears as if it worked but if i click on the page in the cms widgets are no longer selected. The code in the Page.php file or UserDefinedForms.php has not been changed any ideas of what might cause this sort of problem.
