problem with subdomain and subdir

hi,
i have setup silverstripe on a subdomain (ss.example.com) and it works, but when i go on it over the subdir (example.com/ss) of the domain
it dosn't work because the rewritebase is wrong. how can i make that the ".htaccess" checks the the basedir and if it the sub domain sets the rewritebase "/" and otherwise "/ss"?
